What is Creativity?
Creativity is the ability to create something new and different. It’s about seeing things differently, finding new ways of doing things, and having ideas that no one else has thought of before.
Creativity comes in many forms: artistic, musical and scientific creativity are just some examples. It’s important for everyone to have a certain amount of creative thinking in their lives; otherwise we might never discover anything new or improve upon what already exists!
How to Boost Creativity
1. Brainstorming: This is a great way to get your ideas flowing, especially if you’re stuck in a rut. It’s also helpful if you’re working with other people, because brainstorming sessions can lead to some really interesting results.
2. Taking a break: If you feel like your brain needs a rest, take it! Whether it’s going for a walk or taking some time off from work (or both), giving yourself some space can help clear out any mental clutter that might be holding back creativity.
3. Learning something new: Learning new things can give us fresh perspectives on old problems and ideas, which often leads us down new paths toward solving those problems or creating something amazing!
4. Exercising: Exercise has been shown by research studies at Harvard Medical School (among others) to improve cognitive function–including creativity–by increasing blood flow throughout the body as well as releasing endorphins which make us feel happier overall! So go ahead and get moving!
Understanding Creative Blocks
Creative blocks are mental blocks that can prevent you from creating. They can be caused by stress, anxiety, or simply not knowing what to do next.
The first step in overcoming creative blocks is identifying them. Here are some common signs of creative blocks:
- You’re stuck on something and can’t move forward with it (for example, if you’re writing a book and nothing comes out)
- You feel like your work isn’t good enough or isn’t going anywhere (this may mean that you need more practice before being able to create something worthwhile)
Strategies for Overcoming Creative Blocks
1. Identifying and eliminating distractions. If you’re having trouble focusing, it’s likely that your environment is the culprit. Try changing where you work–maybe go somewhere quiet and relaxing or move to a place with lots of people around. The change in scenery can help clear your mind and get more ideas flowing.
2. Using affirmations to boost confidence and self-esteem when facing creative blockages: Affirmations are positive statements about yourself or others that help improve self-image by instilling positive feelings about yourself into the subconscious mind (the part of our brain responsible for processing information). For example: “I am creative” or “I am an artist.” The more often we repeat these statements, the more they become ingrained into our belief system–and thus influence our actions! This technique has been used successfully by many top performers in all fields including sports stars such as Michael Jordan who famously said “I’m gonna be like Jerry West,” referring to his idol who was considered one of basketball’s greatest shooters ever; actors like Jim Carrey who would constantly tell himself “It’s funny”; writers like William Shakespeare who wrote down phrases such as “O Romeo Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo” because he knew this would get him thinking about what comes next which eventually led him back onto track after being stuck somewhere along his journey toward completion…
